Sister's Day and Geocaching
My sister and I spent a wonderful day together enjoying the fall color and doing a bit of shopping. This caboose was located along M-115 in Michigan.
Yesterday I spent the day Geocaching in the Mt. Pleasant, MI area. Had some beautiful hiking trails.
My little Mickie was enjoying the day of walking on the trails. In this photo he's had to wait "patiently" while I searched and searched to find the cache; which I finally did. My little guy is getting older but he still loves to go for a walk.

Bird Watching
Phoebe
These last couple of days have been so hot and humid that I've been indoors most of the time but I've still been having fun watching the birds. I enjoy (yes it's mean) using my fly swatter to kill the very large and mean horse flies when they land on my sliding glass doors. I sit inside, wait for one to land and get comfortable and then go out and "whop"!! Got it!!! I NEVER say I'm bored.
I noticed a few birds coming up to my sliding glass door, diving near it and then flying back to the big oak tree. I finally figured out what they are doing. When I kill a fly I leave it laying on the porch. One of the birds came up and grabbed one of the dead flies off the deck and flew back to the tree. It seems they are trying and succeeding in catching the horse flies in flight or when they land at the patio door.
More power to them!

GEOCACHING WITH MY BUDDY MICKIE.
Yesterday I spent the day geocaching with my buddy Mickie in Michigan's "Thumb"
Here are some of the scenes along the way.

Forgotten Soule. This little country cemetery is overgrown and long forgotten. |

Tiger Lilly If you look closely on the lower right petal you can see a yellow spider called a crab spider. These spiders change colors to match the color of the flower they are on. |

Great Fire of 1881 This historical site had a cache nearby. One of the reasons I love caching so much is all of the interesting places I get to visit. Interesting information on the Red Cross. |

Buck in Velvet
This handsome young fellow just wandered into my back yard a few minutes ago. Two other does were with him. UPDATE...two more does and a playful fawn joined the group. They ate in the field and then went across the road to the woods. So nice to see wildlife almost every day.

Meet Daisy May
On June 13, 2012 my sister's dog "Lady" passed away. She was a wonderful companion for my sis and she misses her dearly. On June 17th my sister asked if I'd like to go with her to "LOOK" for a new puppy for her. We stopped at one place and sis fell in love with little Daisy. Lady will always hold a special place in all of our hearts and Daisy May already does.
SO..... MEET DAISY MAY!!!
She is a Yorkie Poo being part Yorkshire Terrier and part Poodle.

Curwood Castle
Curwood Castle is located in Owosso Michigan. It was built for author James Oliver Curwood who used the castle as a writing studio. Curwood wrote many books. Many were made into movies including "The Bear".
It is said that Curwood Castle is Owosso's most unique historical landmark. The Castle is located in Curwood Castle Park overlooking the Shiawassee River and is open to the public 1-5 p.m. daily except Monday.

Ralph A MacMullan Center - Higgins Lake, MI
A couple of weekends ago my friend Lori and I ventured to the RAM center on Higgins Lake for the TES or Teacher's Environmental Science workshops. The good thing is you don't have to be any of these things to attend the event, just have a sense of adventure and fun.
We met up with a few other hardy souls and went on a walk down to the lake and saw many interesting things along the way.
This is the shoreline of Higgins Lake, it looks like a sand rope.
We headed back to get warm and follow this stream.

We found this Pileated Woodpecker hole.
This is our group at Higgins Lake...brrr
We headed back to get warm and follow this stream.
We took all types of classes and in this class Lori had fun handling her favorite spider, a pink toed tarantula. Lori is using the flashlight to show off the pink toes. I also handled this tarantula along with other spiders, I touched a few snakes and even touched a hedgehog, now that was neat. We went to different craft classes, two wonderful programs on Africa and played cards with the others in the evening and just had a great time. Can't wait until next year!!
